TT, Alipurduar: Six persons were injured, four arrested and work was stopped at Newlands tea estate following a clash among BJP and Trinamul supporters over poll results in the Dooars on Monday.

On Sunday evening, Prakash Chik Baraik, a leader of Cha Bagan Trinamul Congress Mazdoor Union at the Newlands, who won the Newlands-Kumargram-Sankosh panchayat seat as Trinamul candidate clashed with BJP supporters in which six persons were wounded.

BJP supporters, including workers, demonstrated at the garden's gate, demanding Prakash's arrest and none of the workers joined their duties. So, work came to a halt at Newlands. Later, four persons were arrested for the violence.

Trinamul trade union leaders, however, brushed aside the allegation.

In South Dinajpur, husband of a departing panchayat member of Trinamul and a local leader, Jyotsna Das, was hacked with a sharp weapon on his head by suspected BJP supporters on Sunday evening.

District BJP leaders have denied the allegation.
