Morcha sets revamp path
Vivek Chhetri, TT, Apr 02, 2018, Darjeeling: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has decided to bring in major organisational changes in the aftermath of former chief Bimal Gurung's marginalisation.
The Morcha on Sunday convened a central committee meeting at Soureni, around 10km from Mirik, and decided to form a three-tier policy-making forum.
"There will be a 21-member core committee, a working committee and a central committee to oversee party activities," said Morcha president Binay Tamang.
Earlier, when Gurung was at the helm, the party only had a central committee whose policy decision-making authority was under doubt.
In the working committee, 46 leaders have been appointed. "The presidents and secretaries of the party's Kalimpong district committee, sub-divisional committees of Darjeeling, Kurseong and Mirik and of all frontal organisations will also be ex-officio members," Tamang said on Sunday.
The first task of the core committee and working committee will be to organise a meeting at Bagracote in the Dooars on April 5 to firm up the Morcha's stand in the upcoming panchayat elections in the Dooars.
