Now, 4 new flights scheduled from Bagdogra Airport
At present, 22 flights operate everyday from Bagdogra to places including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Guwahati. With the introduction of the summer schedule, the number would go up to 26.
It may be mentioned that the increase in number of flights ahead of the commencement of the night landing facility is quite significant.
From March 29 onwards, there will be night landing facility at Bagdogra Airport which will facilitate landing of aircraft on early morning and late evening.
The Mamata Banerjee government has handed over a plot of 13-acre to the Airports Authority of India to develop infrastructure for the night landing facility.
According to the authorities of Bagdogra Airport, the number of passengers will go up further with the introduction of the night landing facility.
Moreover, increase in the passenger load at the airport is also another reason that led to the increase in the number of flight operations.
The airport has set a new record in February by crossing the 2 million passenger count in the current financial year and the Chief Minister was the 2 millionth passenger when she took flight from Bagdogra Aiport to return Kolkata after her North Bengal tour on February 23.
The airport has witnessed a constant increase in number of passengers soon after the Mamata Banerjee government had waived off the tax on aviation turbine fuel (ATF).
At the same time, development of infrastructure in tourism sector in North Bengal has also helped in increasing the number of passengers at Bagdogra airport.
As per the summer schedule, maximum number of flights will be operational from Bagdogra Airport in between 11 am and 5 pm.
There will be arrival of one flight in between 5 am and 7 am and in the evening there will be operations of seven flights including departure of four in between
5 pm and 7 pm.
The most number of flights that will operate from Bagdogra will connect to Delhi. Ten flights will be departing for Delhi.
