Mamata condoles death of Indra Bahadur Rai

Mamata condoles death of Indra Bahadur RaiMP, Darjeeling: Indra Bahadur Rai, eminent Nepali litterateur passed away at his residence in Darjeeling on Tuesday night. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her condolences over his death.
All offices, public institutions, schools and colleges under the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) will remain closed on Thursday as a mark of respect.
"The death of eminent litterateur IB Rai has created a void in the literary field," stated the CM's condolence message. He died at the age of 91 and is survived by a son and two daughters.
IB Rai is the first recipient of Sahitya Academy award for Nepali literature (1977). He is also the first person to introduce "Tesro Ayam" (concept of third dimension) in Nepali literature through his writings.
IB Rai was born on February 27, 1927 in Balasun, Kurseong.
He completed his schooling from St Robert's school and then went to St Joseph's college.
He completed his education from Calcutta University.
IB Rai worked as a teacher at Turnbull school, Darjeeling and then as an English teacher at St Joseph's College. He was the Vice-Chairman of the Darjeeling Municipality in 1965.
He had received many awards in India and Nepal. IB Rai had played a pro-active role during the Bhasa Andolan (for the inclusion of the Nepali language in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution)
Among his famous works are Aju Ramita Cha (Novel), Bipana Katipaya (essay) along with works of critical acclaim.
Rai's funeral will be held in Darjeeling on Thursday. "All GTA offices, schools and colleges will remain closed," stated Binay Tamang, Chairman, Board of Administrators, GTA.
People from all walks of life along with eminent political leaders visited Rai's house to pay their respect.
