Jaigaon, Alipurduar Town residents to get land rights after decades
Their hope is finally going to be fulfilled after a wait of several decades, as the cabinet on Friday gave sanction to the policy to give rights of the land to the residents of the area.
It may be mentioned that residents of these two places in Alipurduar district had been facing a lot of problems, due to the land rights issue.
During her recent visit to Alipurduar in January, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had given assurance to the people of the region of taking necessary measures, so that the residents there can finally get rid of the decades-old problem of land rights.
She had said: "We will solve the land problems that the people here are facing and steps would be taken so that the lease-held lands can be registered."
The right of land will ensure transfer of ownership and the people will no longer face any problem in developing their properties. Even sanction of bank loans for the same would no longer be a problem.
It may be mentioned that a policy has been framed considering all the aspects, so that the residents would no longer face any trouble to get their work done in future. With the rights of land in their hands, they can now easily take necessary steps ahead of developing their residences.
There is around 369 acres of land in Jaigaon, the rights of which will be given. There are around 5,000 families, who will be getting the benefit of the decision of the Mamata Banerjee government, that has brought an end to the long-standing problems for a large section of people of Alipurduar.
Residents of almost the entire Alipurduar Town had been facing a similar problem for decades. There are around 1.45 lakh residents in Alipurduar Town.
It may be recalled that the Mamata Banerjee government had created Alipurduar as a new district, by bifurcating it from Jalpaiguri district. It is the 20th district of the state and the state government has taken several steps for overall development of the district.
