
GTA to get Rs 135 cr from Union government as special assistance ...State Education Department sanctions Rs 28 crore
MP | 29 March 2018 | Darjeeling: The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration is all set to receive Rs 135 crore from the Union Government as special assistance to the GTA.
The West Bengal Government has also sanctioned Rs 28 crore for repair and upgradation of old schools in the GTA area.
"This amount has been outstanding from the Rs 600 crore special assistance from the Central Government. Utilization certificates for the previous installment had not been sent. After we took charge, we sent all the pending utilization certificates following which the amount was released.
The Union Government has assured that in future, the GTA will be provided more funds for development activities," stated Binoy Tamang, Chairman, Board of Administrators, GTA.
Tamang stated that since the BOA has taken charge from September 25, 2017, emphasis has been given to development activities in different avenues including education, health,
drinking water and roads.
" We have streamlined and changed the old system to ensure quality work. With the cooperation from the Government, we will achieve a lot in the next two years which is the target period," stated Tamang.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal Education Department has sanctioned Rs 28 crore for repairs and upgradation of old schools in the GTA area.
