Girl 'lost' nine years ago reunited with parents

TT, Jalpaiguri: A couple from Alipurduar's Falakata who are migrant workers in Delhi on Thursday "found" their daughter who had gone missing nine years ago from Kanpur station.

The girl who was seven years old then had disappeared with her cousin sister of similar age. The two were accompanied by one of their uncles.

"They were going to a relative's place with my brother. After reaching Kanpur, both the girls, my daughter and my brother's daughter, went missing. We searched for them but could not find them until Thursday," said Soni Munda, the girl's mother.

Soni and her husband Durga work in Delhi as contractual workers. The couple has three daughters and a son.

Meanwhile, the girls managed to reach New Delhi station where they were rescued by the police.

"They could manage to mention the district and state where they reside and thus, were sent here in Jalpaiguri by the Delhi police. Since then, both the sisters are staying here," said Dipashree Roy, coordinator of Anubhab, a home for destitute girls in Jalpaiguri.

The girl, who is 16 now, studies in class VII at a local school in Jalpaiguri. "Her cousin also studies in the same class and school," sahd Ghosh.

The parents, who had lost all hopes of getting their daughter back, had meanwhile got their elder daughter married.

"Both of us go to other states for work. So we have kept our younger daughter and son at a relative's place near our house," the father said.
