Colleague goes to cops... files police complaint against his senior and sought protection

TT, Jalpaiguri: A teacher who claimed to have clicked Jalpaiguri headmaster Haridayal Roy opening Madhyamik question papers ahead of schedule to help his students filed a police complaint on Friday against his senior and sought protection.

Biswajit Roy had also informed officials that Haridayal and some other teachers had relayed the questions and solved answers for some examinees of their Mainaguri Subhash Nagar High School so they score high.

"I am under tremendous pressure. A section of teachers and staff of the school was with initially with me but none is there now. The headmaster is influential and I am feeling scared. That is why I felt it right to inform police," said Biswajit.

He went to the Mainaguri police station after attending school for some time and soon, his wife and sister joined him there, requesting officers to ensure Biswajit's security.

"We have received a complaint from Biswajit Roy against Haridayal Roy, the headmaster. The complainant has accused the headmaster of leaking Madhyamik questions. It is a serious offence and we have started investigations," D.S. Sonar, the deputy superintendent of police of Jalpaiguri, said.

Police sources said some cops had been deployed near the headmaster's home in Mainaguri as there was anger against Haridayal and the town had seen protests against him on Thursday.

In another development, family members of a student of the school who appeared in Madhyamik this year have said that they are thinking of taking legal steps against Biswajit.

The boy's uncle said: "During the conversation, the teacher was heard saying that the headmaster has told questions and even answers to the boy ahead of his exams every day. It is a baseless allegation."
