BJP Bengal rural poll plan

TT, Siliguri: BJP leaders across north Bengal have started drawing up comprehensive plans at micro levels for the coming panchayat elections so that they can brief party president Amit Shah on the electoral strategies during his visit to the region next month.

"Rural polls are contested on the general agenda of development. But issues that affect each village are different. We are identifying the issues which strike a chord with people of each panchayat and block. Once such issues are found, we will highlight them during election campaigns," a senior BJP leader in Siliguri said .

"While bad roads are the issues in some panchayats, it can be drinking water or floods in some other areas. There is a clear instruction to get an elaborate list of such issues ready before the rural polls," said the BJP leader.

"We will apprise the BJP chief of the issues that we would highlight in the panchayat polls,"he added.

When Shah visits north Bengal for the second time in a year, he is likely to interact with tea plantation workers and some booth level BJP leaders.

The BJP president was here last year to attend a booth level campaign organised by the party.
