Pheroze L. Vincent, TT, Jan 13, 2018, New Delhi: A tribal underage domestic help from Ranchi, suffering vicious physical abuse from her employer, a lady doctor in North West Delhi's Kalyan Vihar, was rescued late on Friday evening.

Aged somewhere between 14 and 16 years, the tribal girl who bore deep burns and welts on her body, bite marks on her face and had her eyes jabbed at with scissors, was rescued by a team of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) after a neighbour called up its 181 helpline.

Accused employer Dr Nidhi Chaudhary was arrested on Friday night while police are on the lookout for the girl's trafficker, whom they only know as Ram for now.

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal told this paper that the abuse suffered by the girl during four months of her confinement at Dr Chaudhary's home were horrific to the extreme. She said the girl was produced on Saturday before North West Delhi district's child welfare committee, which referred her to a shelter in Kamla Nagar. The girl is also being treated for multiple injuries at a private hospital and will be compensated.

"We are in touch with NGOs to trace her family. We will stand with the girl till the end, whether she wants to return home (in Ranchi) or live a dignified life in Delhi," Maliwal said.

DCP (North West) Aslam Khan told this paper that a Delhi Police team would visit Ranchi soon to trace the girl's parents.

In its statement, the DWC said the girl was beaten up viciously everyday and strangulated repeatedly by her lady employer. "The girl, who can speak Hindi, said that on Thursday her lady employer sat over her and banged a weighing machine on her head repeatedly. She would also scald the girl with a hot iron and throw hot water at her. The employer also used to bite the girl's face," goes the statement.

Her employer also hurt her eyes with scissors, though did not succeed in blinding her.

The employer also spat at the girl and encouraged her children to do so. During the entire duration of four months, the girl did housework but did not receive any salary. She was denied sweaters and fed two stale slices of bread per day.
