TT, 24 January 2019, Alipurduar: The Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) will carry out beautification works along the stretch of NH31 between Bagdogra and Siliguri and the Buxa Feeder Road in Alipurduar.
The development agency will also set up giant screens at six different locations to apprise people of the social welfare schemes run by the state, sources said.
"We have decided to beautify both sides of the highway between Bagdogra Airport and Siliguri. Thousands of tourists, including people from abroad, take this route during their trip. We want to make this stretch attractive with more trees and colourful lights. Also, beautification would be done on the Buxa Feeder Road (that connects Alipurduar town with NH31)," said Sourav Chakroborty, the chairman of the SJDA.
He also mentioned that four giant screens would be put up at different locations in and around Siliguri, one at Kadamtala More in Jalpaiguri and another at Bata More of Alipurduar town.
"The state government has been running an array of development schemes but many people are not aware of the benefits. On the six giant screens, video clips and slides would be run throughout the day so that people can know about the schemes," said Chakraborty, who is also the MLA of Alipurduar.
