Car smuggling kingpin nabbed in Jalpaiguri
The accused has been identified as Abdul Raja, alias Ravi, who is a resident of Shantinagar area under Bhaktinagar police station in Jalpaiguri. Police came to know that the accused was travelling in a pickup van from Dhupguri to Gosala.
A team of police, under the leadership of the Inspector-in-charge of the local police station, gathered at Gosala More.
When the accused was passing through the area, police intercepted the vehicle and arrested the accused. While searching the vehicle, police seized a pipe gun and one round of cartridge. Police said that the accused was the kingpin of an inter-state car smuggling racket. He used to engage youth for lifting vehicles. The racket had been operating from Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and several areas of North Bengal.
