Gurung aides escape cops
TNN | Nov 12, 2017, KOLKATA: Kalimpong Police may have let slip two of GJM fugitive Bimal's Gurung confidants, yet again.
Police said a raid was conducted in Newangum, about 8km from Pedong in Kalimpong district. Police sources had said Gurung's right-hand man, Dawa, was hiding there along with Phup Namgyel Bhutia alias Bhaila, who had openly brandished weapons earlier.
"As the police party reached the spot, the accused fled. Our men chased them but, being unfamiliar with the terrain, the duo managed to escape," said a police source.
Police recovered two 9mm pistols and a revolver, along with 37 rounds of ammunition, from the spot. Kalimpong Police have registered a fresh FIR after the raid and confiscated the weapons.
Special forces are on their way to Pedong where combing operations are likely to be held on Sunday. Kalimpong police has claimed that Dawa was scuttling between Kalimpong and the Sikkim border, where he is believed to be in touch with other leaders of GJM's Gurung faction.
