Forest plan on jumbo attacks

TT, Jalpaiguri: The death of a private security guard on NH31 on Thursday after he moved closer to a wild elephant on the Chalsa-Lataguri stretch has prompted foresters to intensify vigil along the road.
On Thursday, Siddique Hossain, who was a guard at a private security agency and was posted at Jalpaiguri Central Cooperative Bank, was moving in a vehicle of the bank through the route.
Many vehicles on the highway got stranded as a wild elephant was roaming in the highway. Siddique got down from the vehicle and walked towards the elephant. A footage that went viral in the social media showed that he did not run away even though the animal approached him. The elephant then wrapped him with is trunk and tossed him on the ground. It then trampled his head, and Siddique died on the spot.
"Our staff will move through these stretches, particularly during day hours when the traffic is higher to dissuade people from taking such risks," said a forest official.
