District Administration seal and take possession of GJM party office in Darjeeling

Avik Bhattacharjee accompanied by a police contingent pasted a notice on the entrance of this building on the Lebong Cart Road, 4 km from Darjeeling town.
The notice read "This property and land belongs to the Government of West Bengal. Entry is prohibited."
"This building has been built on Government land having Khatian number 1. It was a tea garden godown initially and had been forcefully taken over. We have sealed the party office occupying 4 floors of the building. The Government has taken possession of the building. The ground floor houses shops. The shops owners will have to meet the district administration to sort out matters" stated Avik Chatterjee, Sub Divisional Officer, Darjeeling Sadar.
The building is fraudulently registered in the name of Avinash Gurung, son of Bimal Gurung allege the District Administration. The building was constructed by Bimal Gurung in 2003. It also houses offices of the frontal organizations of the GJM.
"The building is on Government land and is Government property. After conducting hearings and inquiry, it is found that Government land was fraudulently recorded in the name of Avinash Gurung. District Administration has taken possession today after following due legal process" stated Joyoshi Das Gupta, District Magistrate, Darjeeling.
Sources state that legal action will be initiated against Avinash Gurung and all those who were involved in fraudulently registering the land and property in his name.
Incidentally GJM President Bimal Gurung is on the run having been charged in numerous cases. He has also been charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA.) An arrest warrant and Look-out notice is pending against him.
