Sikkim youth's dead body found after 3 days at NBMCH.... Family members allege negligence by hospital authorities
Prashant Acharya, EOI, SILIGURI, 24 Oct 2017: In a miraculous incident the dead body of a youth from Sikkim was found today who was missing from the hospital bed since last three days after accident near Siliguri.
Meanwhile family members of the deceased have lodged a complaint at Matigara police station against hospital authorities for alleged negligence and non- cooperation.
Prakash Rai (36) a resident of Sisney, Naya Bazar under West district of Sikkim was admitted at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) on Saturday night by NJP police after he met with a bike accident in Fulbari area near Siliguri. His dead body was found on Tuesday morning by his family members.
Prakash was working at the Milk Union since last 3 years and residing in Siliguri.
Sujata Rai, younger sister of Prakash told newspersons, “This is total negligence of the hospital staff. On Saturday my brother was admitted at the hospital and Sunday I was informed that my brother is missing from his bed. We came from Sikkim and enquired about Prakash at the hospital but the staff informed that he fled away from the hospital. We searched on Sunday and Monday whole day but we could not find him.”
According to Sujata they again visited hospital on Monday morning along with other relatives and talked to the staff, provided pictures of Prakash but they informed that he fled away on the same night.
She said, “Hospital authorities have also mistakenly recorded Prakash’s name as Akash Tamang. While returning from the hospital when we saw a dead body lying on the corridor of the hospital we asked other patients they informed that it was lying since Sunday. When my aunt uncovered the cloth from the face it was Prakash.”
Sujata says, “It’s a shame on the staff that a dead body was lying on the corridor and they did not even bother to take care of it and also they did not ask us to check the body.”
When asked to NBMCH superintendent Maitry Kar he said, “the patient was admitted on Saturday and on Sunday he was found missing from his bed. A missing dairy was lodged at the police outpost of NBMCH. He ruled out the allegation of negligence of the hospital.
