Jawan detained with bullets
TT, 29 October 2017, Siliguri: A Sashastra Seema Bal jawan was detained with 60 live cartridges of Insas rifle while trying to board a flight at Bagdogra airport on Sunday.
Ravinder, who hails from Rajpur in Rajasthan, was heading for his home and was supposed to board a Delhi-bound flight.
The SSB is a paramilitary force that guards the international border with Nepal and Bhutan. Ravinder is posted in the 12th battalion that is stationed in Kishanganj in the adjoining of Bihar.
"When his luggage was put for a security scanning at the airport, the staff of the airline concerned found that there were three magazines, each with 20 live bullets of Insas rifle, in his bag," said an officer of Bagdogra police station.
The airline staff detained Ravinder (who doesn't have a second name) and informed the police.
As the police questioned Ravinder, he could not show any document in support of carrying the live ammunition.# "Ravinder told us that he had forgotten to submit the magazines with the armoury of the battalion before leaving for the airport," said the official.
Later, SSB officers took the jawan away.
