Honeypreet arrested 'in Innova'
TT, & PTI, Chandigarh, Oct. 3: Honeypreet Insan, who claims to be the adopted daughter of jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, was arrested today by Haryana police in connection with the violence that followed Gurmeet's conviction on rape charges on August 25.
The arrest came hours after Honeypreet, accused of trying to orchestrate Gurmeet's failed escape bid after the conviction, appeared on two private television channels and interacted with journalists at an undisclosed location. The police had been looking for her for more than a month.
Honeypreet was arrested from the Zirakpur-Patiala road, Haryana police chief B.S. Sandhu said.
Honeypreet tops the list of 43 people "wanted" by the police in connection with the violence that left 41 dead and several injured following Gurmeet's conviction.
Honeypreet will be produced before a court in Panchkula tomorrow where the police will seek her remand.
"Honeypreet was travelling in an Innova (when she was arrested). Another woman was accompanying her," police commissioner A.S. Chawla said.
"Who supported whom... where all she hid and who gave her shelter - all these will come to the fore when we question her at length," he added.
