Hunting accused brought to Jalpaiguri

TT, Jalpaiguri, Sept. 15: The Criminal Investigation Department probing incidents of rhino poaching in north Bengal today brought an alleged militant here from Assam to check his involvement in the crime.
CID sources said Dingmuan alias Lingdong Muan, was a member of the Zomi Revolutionary Army, a militant outfit in Manipur.
In March this year, a group of poachers had entered the Gorumara National Park and killed two rhinos. They then chopped off the horns, buried the carcasses and fled the spot.

While heading for Assam, the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident. Three persons died but Dingmuan survived.
Police officers of Assam checked the vehicle and found some narcotic and a rhino horn inside. The militant was then arrested.
In April this year, the forest department officers of Assam informed their counterparts in Bengal about the incident and the alleged poaching of the rhinos.
Both the carcasses were exhumed and a case was also filed at Nagrakata police station. Later, the CID was assigned the investigation.
Today, the militant was produced in the chief judicial magistrate's court. The court heard the case and has sent him to the CID's custody for 14 days.
