Home Minister appeals GJM to withdraw strike... Home Secretary to convene meeting with GJM
KalimNews, Kalimpong, 26 September 2017: As speculated by people and announced by GJM Union Home Ministry is convening an official level meeting with the GJM within a fortnight.
In a major political development today the Union Home Ministry issued a press release through Press Information Bureau which states that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked the Union Home Secretary to convene the official level meeting with Gorkha Janmukti Morcha to discuss all related matters.
The Home Minister also has appealed the GJM to withdraw the indefinite bandh in Darjeeling Hills and help to create a conducive atmosphere for allowing normalcy to return to the area.
Home Minister had made similar request on 13 August 2017 to withdraw both the indefinite strike and fast unto death by 16 GJM supporters. Eventually GJM withdrew the indefinite hunger strike but continued the general strike.
The public are of the opinion that the ministry press release does not mention anything about Gorkhaland but mentions that the meeting is a bipartite official secretary level meeting and not tripartite meeting as demanded by Bimal Gurung, GJM Chief.
We hope that GJM will announce withdrawal of the strike within tomorrow which is expected by everybody and will give hill people a sigh of relief, said Bikram Subba, a shopkeeper of the town.
Though the intervention of the Home Minister for a joint official talk on the Darjeeling hill issue related to Gorkhaland is too late after on 104th day of the indefinite strike but its what the party was demanding since beginning. It has relieved GJM party supporters as well as Bimal Gurung.
