Bomb hurled at house
TT, Calcutta, Sept. 5: An improvised explosive device has been lobbed at the house of Trinamul municipal councillor in Mirik but the explosive hasn't gone off.
Poonam Biswa, the councillor of ward 2, and her family members were not at the residence last night when the bombs was believed to have been thrown.
L.B. Rai, the chairman of Mirik municipality, said: "The explosive seems to have been lobbed last night. Since it did not explode, no one knew about it. It was only around 9.30 am today that the explosive was seen on the veranda of her house."
Shopkeepers were slowly opening their shutters when the explosive was found. Police were also present on the streets and so were Trinamul supporters. "Since the police were already in the area, they immediately brought sandbags and protected the area," said a local source.
A police officer said the motive behind the bomb being hurled at the house was probably to terrorise the local people.
Today, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha supporters were not allowed to bring out a rally in Mirik unlike other days apprehending law and order problem. The rally started from near Thurbo tea garden and ended at Mirik Bypass.
