Registration respite for hill schools
Mita Mukherjee, Aug. 1: The ICSE council will extend the last date of registration of students of classes IX and XI in the schools in Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong because of the ongoing agitation in the hills, council secretary Gerry Arathoon said.
The council has said it will open the online registration window — students can only register online — for the schools after Internet connectivity is restored in the hills. The government has blocked Internet in the hills because of the statehood agitation.
The council has set August 31 as the deadline for the registration of the students of classes IX and XI.
Arathoon, the secretary and chief executive of the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations, promised the concession for the schools in Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong at a meeting with the principals of ICSE schools in Calcutta yesterday.
He said the council would ensure that “the students do not face any problem”.
“Please let us know when the problem in the hills is over. We will do the needful to ensure that the registration and confirmation of the students is held smoothly,” a school head who attended the meeting quoted Arathoon as saying.
