Police sealed Nepali channel in Siliguri after raid on Saturday night

SILIGURI, 23 Jul 2017: The office of Nepali channel ABN, based in Siliguri has been sealed by police after complaints lodged by Darjeeling district cultural and information department on Saturday night.
Police raided the office at about 8:30 pm on Saturday after finding facts and information as per the complaints lodged by the complainant.
According to police the employees of the media house used to share the news in facebook page after telecasting the news about Gorkhaland movement which instigated the agitators to turn more violent. The channel is also alleged for telecasting objectionable news and programmes.
Police force headed by ACP Achinta Gupta entered the office of ABN and asked the employees to stop the work and later sealed the office.
After sealing the office police served the notice to channel’s CEO Swapnil Chatterjee and HR Head Tulshi Raman to appear at Bhakti Nagar police station on Sunday.
When asked to Chatterjee he said, “I am unable to explain the details right now but can say that we were telecasting the programmes and news abide by laws and following all the rules and regulations.”
However Network’s creative head said, “Police at around 8:30 pm a group of police entered the office and again at 11 pm another group reached without the copy of FIR or any notice and asked us to stop the telecast. This is against freedom of press and very sole of democracy is tapered by the administration. We are shocked about the sealing of our office.”
Siliguri police commissioner Niraj Singh said, “The move was made after the complaint lodged by the Darjeeling district cultural and information department. Presently the office has been sealed and the investigation has been started.”
Meanwhile more than sixty employees sat on a silent protest outside the office throughout the day. The channel was launched on October 2016.
