Pioneer Nepal poet's birth anniversary provides respite from Hills turmoil
SNS, 13 July 2017, Kalimpong: In what maybe called a much needed respite from the ongoing turmoil in the Hills, separate events held to mark the 203rd birth anniversary of pioneer Nepali poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya today calmed frayed nerves and lessened the tension that has gripped the region for the past one month.
At the district magistrate's office in the morning, the heads of the oftice, along with the Superintendent of Police and the Assistant Superintendent of Police. paid tribute to the poet.
District Magistrate, Dr Viswanath, said at his office that he is inspired by the work of the poet.
"He translated the great epics like the Ramayana into Nepali. He created a composite culture for the society, and his ideas and work always inspire us. It is said that literature is a mirror of the society: he has created that vision in the society,' he said.
A similar program me was held at the Trikone Park by the Nepali Sahitya Adhyayan Sarniti where hundreds of people paid homage to the poet.
Despite the ongoing strife and agitation for a separate state of Gorkhaland, this particular programme brought together protesting people and the Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Yadav on the same platform, wWhen the top cop garlanded the statue of the poet at Trikone Park at Thana Dara.
At the DM office, SP Yadav said! "Bhanu Bhakta taught language, literature and culture, which is a composite one. He wanted all of his Nepali and Gorkha friends to know what is actually written in the epics of other languages - that was the essence of his work and I really appreciate it."
"Let this day be peaceful, and his works and what he wanted must come into our lives,' he added,
A procession to mark the day also went round the town and ended in a corner meeting at Dambar Chowk, where a few Nepali poems were recited by poets of Kalimpong.
It may be mentioned that the Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee had called upon all sections to mark Bhanu Jayanti as the Gorkha Ekta Diwas (Unity Day).
