Mamata launches Kanyashree 3 for Post graduate level

EOI, Kolkata, 28 Jul 2017: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today launched Kanyashree 3 (K3), which is aimed at providing financial assistance for girls studying in post graduate classes.
While students pursuing Masters in science stream will get Rs 2500 a month, those studying in humanities group will get Rs 2000 a month. However the students are required to get 45 per cent marks in their graduation level to avail of the assistance. The first two editions of Kanyashree, K1 and K2, were meant to give financial help to girls studying from class VIII to the undergraduate level. Mamata made the announcement at a function organised to celebrate the success of Kanyashree, the state government's flagship programme for the empowerment of young women, held at Netai Indoor Stadium.

The programme, a brainchild of the chief minister was launched by the state government on October 1, 2013. It has snagged several awards both in India and abroad, the latest being the United Nations' Public Services Award, 2017. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee herself received the award at a ceremony held at the Hague. The chief Minister also revealed that some NRIs from USA have given her suggestion that they would fund the higher education of 10 girls.

Mamata used the occasion to call students to rise above religion and serve humanity to the best of their ability. ``There are no Hindus or Muslims. We are the sons and daughters of the same mother. Fight against all divisive forces,'' she said. Twenty girls from all over the state were felicitated for their spectacular achievements in different fields despite adversities. Five districts namely Bankura, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, North Parganas and Dakshin Dinajpur, were also felicitated for their efficient implementation of the scheme.
