'If Gorkhaland is achieved by my resignation, I am ready': Rajen Mukhia

EOI, MIRIK, 14 Jul 2017: Trinamool Congress Hill president Rajen Mukhia is ready to resign from his post if Gorkhaland is achieved by his resignation and the central government gives guarantee into it.
Mukhia who is presently guarded by more than 10 policemen at his resident at Panighatta wished to talk to this correspondent of The Echo of India about his stand on Gorkhaland.
He said, “Morcha is pressurizing hill TMC leaders to resign from the party and join their movement but will they achieve their demand of Gorkhaland unless the central government makes a clear stand for the Gorkhas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech in Siliguri before Parliament election had said that he will fulfill the dreams of Gorkhas, but where is he when hill is boiling.”
Mukhia asks the Gorkhaland supporters to ‘gherao’ the house of Darjeeling MP S S Ahluwalia who is silent even after the death of eight people in the hills. People have chosen Ahluwalia as their MP but why he doesn’t visit hills during such a crisis moment, he said.
He said, “If Gorkhaland is achieved by our resignation I will be the first to resign from my post.”
When asked to Mukhia if he supports Gorkhaland he replied, “I can’t say anything on that but I am with the stand made by my party’s central committee.”
Police personnel guarding his house informed that situation is becoming tense day-by-day as agitators are threatening Mukhia on a regular basis and hurling stones every night.
