'Governor Tripathi has threatened, insulted me': Mamata Banerjee
"He (the Governor) has threatened me. He has insulted me today. He cannot do that. I told him you cannot talk to me like this. I am an elected person. He is a nominated person," a furious Mamata told reporters.
The Trinamool Congress leader also alleged that Governor Tripathi was behaving like a "BJP block president".
"The governor took the state BJP's favour and insulted me. He's behaving like a block president of BJP," claimed Mamata.
The row erupted when the governor called the chief minister to enquire about reports of communal violence at Baduria in North 24 Parganas district. She assured him that the administration was taking proper measures to maintain peace.
"He talked big on law and order. I am not here at the mercy of anyone. The way he spoke to me, I once thought of leaving (the chair)," she said.
This isn't the first time Mamata has been at odds with Governor Tripathi. In December 2016, Tripathi, a BJP leader, had chided Mamata over her remarks on the deployment of Army at toll plazas across the state. The governor had said, "Every person should take care in making allegations against a responsible organisation like the Army."
Mamata had hit back and charged that the governor was speaking in the voice of the central government.
