Centre seeks another report on Darjeeling
TH, NEW DELHI, JULY 03, 2017: The Centre has sought another report from the West Bengal government on the ongoing Darjeeling violence as the State government has asked for the withdrawal of women CRPF personnel among other measures.
This is the second time that the Centre has sought a report from the State on Darjeeling.
The State government also asked the Home Ministry to replace the Sashastra Seema Bal personnel with Central Reserve Police Force jawans. The Ministry said the request was “inappropriate and incongruous.”
It asked the West Bengal government to send a detailed factual report on the law and order situation in Darjeeling, which has seen violence for nearly 20 days. This is the second time that the Centre has sought a report from the State on Darjeeling.
Summons to Gurung
Meanwhile, the West Bengal Child Rights Commission issued summons to Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung after children took part in a pro-Gorkhaland rally in Darjeeling on Monday, the second time in the past five days.
Commission chairperson Ananya Chakraborty said this violated the laws on the rights of children and the Calcutta High Court’s order of 2011, which prohibited children from political processions.
