GJYM threatens indefinite strike if rallies are stopped
Amitava Banerjee | MP |14 Jun 2017 | Darjeeling: Chances of a scuffle on Thursday loomed large with the Gorkha Janmukti Yuva Morcha (GJYM-youth wing of the GJM) threatening to clamp an indefinite general bandh in the Hills if security forces try to stop their rallies.
The women's wing of the GJM will be taking out three rallies on Thursday which have been denied permission by the district administration and police. Meanwhile, the third day of the indefinite bandh call passed off peacefully with no reports of untoward incidents.
A GJYM meet took place in Malidhura around 12 km from Darjeeling town on Wednesday attended by GJM president Bimal Gurung. Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Prakash Gurung, the GJYM president stated: "The nari morcha will take out three rallies on Thursday from Dali, Darjeeling Railway Station and Singamari. If the police try to stop the rallies forcefully or resort to any kind of force, we will call for an indefinite bandh in the Hills."
Getting a shot in the arm from Wednesday's all party meet, where five outfits including the BJP pledged support to the GJM in the shape of an unified movement for Gorkhaland, Gurung warned: "We will further intensify our movement to counter police and administrative excesses. It might take the shape of indefinite bandhs. It is advisable for tourists and outsiders who work here to avoid the Hills at this point."
GJM general secretary Roshan Giri left for Delhi on Wednesday evening. He would be meeting BJP leaders and ministers in Delhi including the Union Home Minister seeking the Central government's intervention in the ongoing impasse.
Administrative reshuffle also took place at the GTA amidst the ongoing special audit. C Murugan, Managing Director, WBTDCL was moved in replacing Don Bosco Lepcha as the secretary, GTA. Deepap Priya P was brought into the GTA as the Executive Director.
A large security force contingent arrived at Malidhura led by S P Akhilesh Chaturvedi when Gurung and the GJYM were holding a meeting. They went around the area and left after some time. (Source & Courtesy : "http://www.millenniumpost.in/kolkata/kolkata-247237)
