TT, Jalpaiguri, May 3: The management of the Songachi Tea Estate under Metelli block of Jalpaiguri district declared suspension of work in Nakati division of the garden today following an assault on a managerial staff member.

The management has filed a complaint at Metelli police station, alleging that Lopa Majhi, a local leader of the Trinamul-backed tea trade union, assaulted Jitendra Kumar Dubey, an assistant manager, yesterday evening. Majhi and his cohorts have also ransacked the office in the division, sources said.
