CM to visit Mirik in first week of JuneMP | 24 May 2017, Kolkata: The people of the Hills have started counting days after knowing about the tour of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the first week of June to Mirik. Waiting to congratulate her on her party's thumping victory in "establishing democracy" in the Hills by winning the Mirik Municipality in the recently-concluded civic polls, the people are awaiting a new ray of hope.

According to sources in Nabanna, Banerjee will be in a four-day tour to North Bengal in the first week of June. She will be setting out for North Bengal on June 4 and will be there till June 7.

During her North Bengal tour, she will be visiting Mirik where her party has won in the civic polls breaking the decade-long monopoly of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha in the Hills.

Banerjee is scheduled to attend a programme in Mirik from where she will be congratulating the people for casting their votes in favour of Trinamool Congress to start a new era in the Hills.

Last time she had visited the Hills was in the end of March when she had declared Mirik a sub-division besides announcing Kalimpong as a new district. She had also taken several steps for an overall development of the Hills and development was the key agenda of the Trinamool Congress in the civic polls.

It is learnt that the Chief Minister will be announcing several projects for the development of the area and she will also take stock of the ongoing projects. The local administration has already started making preparations for the visit of the Chief Minister and the people of the region are waiting to listen to Banerjee once again.

Banerjee is also scheduled to hold administrative review meetings of two districts – North 24 Parganas and Hooghly – before leaving for North Bengal. The administrative review meeting of North 24 Parganas will be held at Barrackpore on May 30 and the same at Tarakeswar in Hooghly will be held on June 1.
