Truck loaded with marijuana seized

EOI, SILIGURI, 31 Mar 2017: A huge consignment of marijuana was seized late Thursday night by the Bhakti Nagar police in Siliguri.

The packeted contraband, weighing 429kg and valued about Rs15 lakh, was found in a Rajasthan registered truck.

Police sources said tea leaves had been loaded onto the truck on March 27 at a warehouse in the Sevoke Road area.

The truck owner was not in contact with the driver for two days and the vehicle was spotted in the Fulbari area on March 29.

The truck was taken to the warehouse in Sevoke Road, but the driver was nowhere to be found. When the police searched the truck, they found marijuana instead of tea inside the packets, prompting an investigation while the vehicle has been impounded.
