BSF seizes snake venom worth Rs 6crore

Subhro Maitra | TNN | Apr 4, 2017, Malda: Around two pounds of snake venom, worth Rs 6 crore, was seized at the India-Bangladesh border on Sunday. BSF jawans at Bhimpur border outpost came by three youths trying to enter India.
On being chased, the men fled into Bangladesh. Jawans found a bag containing jars labelled 'Made in France' while searching the area.
Commandant B S Negi of battalion No. 199 claimed the bulletproof jars contained a brown liquid, which was handed over to the forest department where officials confirmed it to be snake venom.
Abdul Rejjak, ranger of Balurghat forest, said that the bottles will be sent to a forensic laboratory in Mumbai if the court permits.
