Kalimpong district to get exclusive entrance gate

SNS, Kolkata, 28 March 2017: The newly setup Kalimpong district will now have an entrance gate that ill have exclusive features representing it. The gate's design has been approved by chief minister Mamata Banerjee herself and construction work will start very soon.
The gate will be made of pine or dhupi wood along with concrete and will have specific designs that are indigenous of Kalimpong.
"The gate will act as a welcome sign to tourists when they enter Kalimpong. It will be set up on NH-31C. A huge number of tourists who visit north Bengal every year go to Kalimpong," said an official of PWD that is constructing it.
Apart from the main gate, seven more identical gates would be set up at important places in the district.
Kalimpong was carved out of Darjeeling last month and consists of the Kalimpong Municipality and three community development blocks namely Kalimpong, Kalimpong II and Gorubathan.
A Rs 220 crore road link project to connect Kalimpong with Sikkim and a Rs 50 crone water supply project by the public health engineering department to address the water scarcity problem are two of the major projects initiated by the state government.
Meanwhile, offices of 18 departments are being set up at Uttar Kenya at the mini secretariat for North Bengal, to approve funds and projects for the six districts in the region.
Offices of Agriculture, Animals Resources Development, Backward Classes Welfare, Cooperation, Commerce and Industry, Finance, Hill Affairs, Health Family Welfare, Housing, Labour, Municipal Affairs, Minority Affairs & Madrasah Education, Micro Small Scale Enterprises, Textiles, Public Works Department, School Education, Transport, Women & Social Welfare and the North Bengal Development Department are being housed in the mini secretariat.
