Arup Biswas woos voters in Kurseong
The TMC leader was in Kurseong for a programme organized by the local unit where hundreds of people from various municipality wards including from the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha had congregated.
“Give us one chance and vote for us and in the next five years we will change the face of Kurseong. You will see how much we work for the people. The local self government is important to work for people and if you vote for us, we will make another Kolkata in the hills.
We believe in work and not just talk,” asserted Biswas.
Taking a dig at the GJM, he highlighted the failures of the party saying it was heaped in corruption in spite of financial assistance from the state government. “The state government has given crores of rupees to the GJM-led GTA to develop the region. But the GJM has failed to work and is instead indulging in widespread corruption and nepotism. Had the GJM worked properly this situation of going to the doors of the people to seek their votes would not have arisen,” Biswas said in reference to the GJM’s door to door election campaign.
Biswas, who is also a state minister, did not fail to remember to play the Mamata Banerjee card to woe voters. “Our chief minister loves the hills and its people. She is doing so much work for the hills and also giving funds for development of the region. No other chief minister has come to the hills so often or ushered so much development,” he claimed.
Pradip Pradhan, the hill TMC chairman from Kurseong claimed, near about 2,000 people today joined the party from different areas of the 20 wards. “People have begun to understand that the chief minister is the only person who will work for this place and so they are showering their love by joining the TMC. Today’s joining is only a trailer and there is more to come as senior GJM leaders too are with us. I don’t know how the GJM will be able to stop this tsunami of people and their supporters joining our party,” he said.
Biswas will be in Darjeeling today for another programme and will head to Mirik on Tuesday.
