Rights organisation for plans to make Kalimpong 'ideal'

SNS, Kalimpong, 23 February 2017: At a time when Jan Andolan Party (JAP) has been demanding formation of blocks in the interest of the people residing in remote gram panchayat areas, which are located in Sikkim but fall under Kalimpong district in Bengal, people associated with rights origanisations are demanding more plans to make it an ideal district.

Two different memorandums were served to Kalimpong district magistrate Dr Viswanath over the issue of making Kalimpong district a more ideal one. The first memorandum, served by Citizen's rights forum of Kalimpong have also sent various proposal to state chief minister Mamata Banerjee through the district magistarte of Kalimpong.

The forums have suggested to make Kalimpong a new dimension in Tourism.

NarayanPradhan of the forum said, "Kalimpong is situated between three tourism hotspot Dooars, Sikkim and Darjeeling. So keeping this in mind, we have suggested to make Kalimpong a centralised commanding tourism. It can be established at Kalimpong itself for all these tourist destinations, which will add a new dimension to tourism in the area."

Meanwhile the forum has demanded protection of Teesta Triveni confluence. It has clearly stated that the forum is against the construction of NHPC at Rangit river near the confluence.

Meanwhile, for sustainable economical development of the area keeping in mind the environment, the forum has also demanded establishment of IT industries in the district.

It has also given a proposal to upgrade education industry in Kalimpong along with boosting agriculture.

At the same time, MLA Kalimpong along with GTA Sabhasad from the district and GJMM leaders, too served a memorandum to the district magistrate bringing some important issues to the fore which need immediate attention from the administration.

In the memorandum, MLA Kalimpong has demanded creation of four new-subdivisions and seven blocks in the district.

GJM wants Kalimpong Sadar, Algarah Gorubathan and Sinji as sub-divisions whereas Kalimpong, Kagay, Charkol, Tanyang, Gitabling-Gitbeong, Goruabthan and Jaldhaka as the new blocks.

MLA Kalimpong highighted many problems which some villagers are facing. She said 22 Kalimpong Assembly constituencies need immediate rationalism for removing confusion among the public.

Chota Mangjing, a village in Gorubathan, which is administered by Kalimpong pay land revenue to Jalpaiguri area needs immediate attention. She has demanded a committee to be formed to look into the water problem of masses.
