Police complaint on home

TT, Feb. 25: The Jalpaiguri district administration has filed a police complaint alleging several anomalies at the home for destitute women run by Chandana Chakraborty, who has been accused of running a baby sale racket.
"We had sent our officials to the home to check the state of affairs there. They found several discrepancies and submitted a report to us. So, the district social welfare officer filed a complaint with the police on February 23," said Rachna Bhagat, the district magistrate of Jalpaiguri.
The wife of Trinamul MLA Hiten Burman who was served a showcause notice yesterday for running a home in Cooch Behar without a proper licence today blamed the district administration for delaying the process. "The district administration has for some reason or the other not processed our application for the licence. The points mentioned in the notice are baseless," said Kalpana Burman.
