GTA, GJMM serve memo to Kurseong municipality

SNS, Kurseong 7 February 2017:Ahead of state chief minister Mamta Banerjee's Darjeeling hills visit, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Sabha member and Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha representative visited Kurseong municipality and served a memorandum to the newly-appointed administrator of the civic body regarding various issues and problems related to the municipality.

Talking to reporters in Kurseong, GTA Sabha member from Kurseong-Chimney-Deorali constituency Mr Yogendra Rai said that ward no 1 to 10 of the municipality area falls under his sabhasad jurisdiction and accordingly ward no. 11 to 20 are under the jurisdiction of GTA's Kurseong-Giddhapahar constituency sabhasad Mr Anit Thapa.

He further added that accordingly from the GTA side, they have been executing different developmental works from the GTA funds in all the 20 wards of the Kurseong municipality.

But several pending developmental works of the municipality have not yet started at various wards by the administrator.

He alleged, "A few months earlier, when the GJMM was running the Kurseong municipality board, the state government used to obstruct and block sufficient funds meant for the board as it was run by the GJMM."

But these days, a government official has been looking after the civic body; hence, they think that there should be no shortage of funds to execute works since the board is presently being run by officials belonging to the state government.

'Not only this, they have even come to know that the fund has been released by the department concerned for various pending works but despite these, the most essential works of the municipality has not been started so far," alleged the GTA sabha member.

He also added that they have requested the administrator of Kurseong municipality to restart the pending works as well as to take necessary action to execute and solve the problems (like water problems, accumulated garbage, street lights etc) faced by the general public.

When asked about the issue to the Kurseong SDO and municipality administrator, Mr Debashish Chattopadhya said that according to the department-wise funds that they receive, they will execute the works accordingly,
