Millenium Post, 6 February 2017, Kolkata: A Class X girl student committed suicide on Monday after a youth with whom she had been romantically involved threatened to upload some photographs, capturing in compromising position, in a social networking site. The incident took place at Krishnapur Chowk in Nadia.
Police said the Class X girl had began her romance with the accused youth, Avijit Roy, a few months ago. Recently, the girl's parentscame to know about their relationship and asked her not to keep touch with the boy any more. As a result, the girl began avoiding Avijit.
However, he began to following her and had tried numerous times to contact her over phone. On Sunday, the youth had been constantly calling her up on her cell phone. Frustrated, she eventually picked up the call and Avijit allegedly threatened her she did not resume the relationship. He threatened that he would upload some photographs of hers, in compromising position, if she continued to avoid him.
Instead of disclosing the matter to her parents, the spoke confided in her friends and told her about Avijit's threat. The victim had also requested her friend to talk to Avijit to dissuade him from uploading the photographs. The friend then spoke to Avijit, but he turned downs her requests.
Unable to withstand the mental pressure, the girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of a room in her house. Her parents found her body hanging on Monday morning.
Local people went to the house hearing her mother's cries. Police were informed and the body was sent for autopsy.
The victim's family members lodged a complaint with the police against Avijit. Police are yet to arrest him.
