Woman arrested with brown sugar worth crores

EOI, SILIGURI, 4 Jan 2017: In a major haul of narcotics, the personnel of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) 41 Battalion at Ranidanga in Siliguri and Narcotics Control Bureau Zonal Unit (NCBZU), Kolkata seized 280 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 1.40 crores according to the international market.
Acting on a tip-off SSB and NCBZU conducted a joint operation in Siliguri on Tuesday early afternoon. A woman was arrested during the raid along with Brown Sugar.
The team headed by D. K. Singh, Second in Command of SSB 41 Bt, raided a house near Madarsa School at Gawalpathy in Siliguri. They arrested the woman involved in drug trafficking during the raid and also recovered Rs.80,330 in cash from the house. The team also informed the personnel at Pradhan Nagar Police Station.
During interrogations, the team identified the woman as Khairul Nesha (36) wife of notorious drug smuggler Md. Tamanna and a resident of Madarsa School area at Siliguri Bazaar. They also found the narcotic was smuggled from Lalgola in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
Further investigations of the arrested woman also revealed the narcotic was made in Afghanistan.
Earlier in April 2016 six persons including five from Nepal were arrested by Narcotic Bureau and BSF from Pradhan Nagar in Siliguri on charges of smuggling narcotics substances.
Around 8 kg charas, 140 gram of brown sugar, 140 gram of methaqualone and 240 gram of cocaine were found from inside the car.
