Mom dead, daughter held
TT, Malda, Jan. 9: A 58-year-old woman from Katabari village in Old Malda was found dead at her house today. The homemaker's brother and neighbours have alleged that she was beaten to death by her daughter, son and son-in-law after an argument over property.
The deceased woman's daughter Laxmi was thrashed by villagers and later arrested. Her son Nayan and son-in-law Sanjib have fled the village.
Around 8am today, a neighbour found the body of Pramila Das at her house at Katabari, 2km from here.
Pramila stayed with her husband Kajal, a night guard at a nearby factory. He was not at home last night.
Pramila's brother Jitendra Das who had lodged a police complaint, said: "My sister had some agricultural land, Rs 2 lakh in bank and some gold ornaments. Both her children insisted that she divide those between them. They had even tortured her before. Last night, Nayan, Laxmi and Sanjib beat her to death. She was alone at the house."
Today, some villagers spotted Laxmi and thrashed her.
A police officer said: "We are looking for the deceased's son and son-in-law. We have arrested her daughter."
