Medical college gets new police outpost

Prashant Acharya, EOI, SILIGURI, 1 Jan 2017: The North Bengal Medical College and Hospital police outpost was inaugurated on Saturday in the presence of the Siliguri Police Commissioner, NBMCH Superintendent and other officials.
With the new outpost now in place, the NBMCH campus is expected to become safer for employees of the hospital who used to face various problems earlier.
Siliguri Police Commissioner C. S. Lepcha said, “For now the outpost at NBMCH will serve the area as NBMCH Outpost. We will submit a proposal to the government for upgrading the outpost to a full fledged police station.”
The old outpost at the NBMCH was more than 700 metres away from the hospital campus.
The current outpost will be shifted from its existing place to the NBMCH campus premises near the official quarters of the NBMCH Superintendent.
According to NBMCH Super Dr. Nirmal Bera, shifting the police outpost to the hospital campus will further enhance security within the campus. The NBMCH nursing staff and those doing night duty used to face various problems due to lack of security.
A snatching case at the campus was reported recently. The administration has installed 32 CCTVs in the campus with an additional 64 CCTV cameras to be installed in two weeks. Two monitors will be installed to check activities in the campus. The NBMCH Superintendent will have one monitor while the other will be kept at the police outpost.
