Gurung association to demand separate development board

SNS, Kurseong, 9 January 2017: Ahead of the state chief minister Miss Mamata Banerjee's proposed Darjeeling hills visit, the Gurung Sangathan, Darjeeling, is now going to organise a convention on 15 January at Sonada in Darjeeling hills to press and strengthen the demand of a separate Gurung development board.

Talking to the reporters, the Gurung Sangathan,Darjeeling, executive member, Binanjay Gurung, who is also the Sangathan Kurseong region convenor, said that for strengthening the demand of a separate development board for Gurung community their association is going to organise a huge gathering on 15 January in Sonada in Darjeeling hills, in which, the people from Gurung community from different places in the hills and plains will be present and attend the programme dressed in their traditional attires.

He also said that on 16 January, they will visit Kolkata and meet the state minister, Mr Aroop Biswas to press and submit a memorandum regarding the demand of the formation of a separate development for the Gurung community. He also added that earlier too, they had met the state chief minister and other departments officials concerned, including minister Mr Aroop Biswas in Kolkata in regard to their demand.

Not only this, they have already submitted several deputations to them. And accordingly, considering their association's efforts and requests over the demand, during her last visit at Kalimpong in Darjeeling hills on 22 September 2016, Miss Banerjee had assured them positively that in her next Darjeeling hills visit, or in the coming days, she will definitely announce and form a separate development board for the Gurung community, claimed Mr Binanjay Gurung.

Hence, ahead of the thief minister's visit, they will again highlight and place their demand before the different departments' officials concerned as well as to the chief minister.

That is why a team of the Gurung Sangathan, Darjeeling will visit and meet them in Kolkata on 16 November.

Hence, we are absolutely certain and hopeful that in her coming visit, Miss Banerjee will announce a separate development board for the Gurung community he added.

Mr Gurung also explained how a separate development board will divide the Gorkha Community in different castes and sub castes.

He further added that those opposing the development boards should understand that different castes and sub-castes make a community and if each and every castes are developed, the community develops as a whole, he claimed.

Mr Gurung also said hence, through the media, he wants to request all the people from Gurung community to attend their pro-posed programme in Sona-da.

He also added that they have been demanding a board for all round development of Gurung Community on different aspects.

Through a development board, the entire needy Gurung community will be develop and be promoted.
