CBI tracks 'favours'

TT, Calcutta, Jan. 5: Trinamul MP Sudip Bandyopadhayay had granted favours to Gautam Kundu, chairman of the Rose Valley group, as an elected representative in more ways than one, the CBI today.
"It appears that Sudip Bandyopadhayay had used his post as MP to help Kundu in several ways," said a CBI officer.
Picking a lead from the MP's questioning yesterday night, the CBI today summoned the principal of a Calcutta college to its office and questioned him regarding funds the institution had allegedly received from Kundu.
Sources said Kundu had allegedly "donated" over Rs 70 lakh to the college after his son got admitted there following a recommendation by the MP.
CBI insiders said there was nothing wrong in receiving a donation if it was accounted for. But what is key is the purpose hidden behind the act of benevolence, a source said.
