Boy hangs in girl's class

TT, Malda, Jan. 12: A college student reportedly rejected by a girl allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan of a classroom of her school today.
Police sources said 22-year old Raju Mondol had scrawled the name of the girl, a student of the high school, on a bench in the classroom where he was found hanging.
Raju was in second year of a private college and used to live with his uncle in quarters located on the premises of the school.
His uncle, Rohit Mondol, is the night guard in the high school, police said.
In a complaint lodged with Englishbazar police station, the uncle alleged that the youth had a grown fond of the girl but for some reason, the relationship soured.
"My nephew, whom I raised as a child after his parents passed away, was depressed since this girl stopped talking to him. This morning, I did not find him in bed. I looked for him but could not locate him. Around 8am, I went to open the classrooms as there was a programme to observe Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary. One classroom on the ground floor was locked from inside," said the uncle.
"I then called Raju on his mobile and I heard the phone ringing inside the locked classroom. I opened a window and found Raju hanging from the ceiling fan. The girl he was fond of sits in the same class," he added.
The headmistress said she had come to know about the incident in the morning.
"We had a programme to observe Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary but with the police coming in to investigate, we had to cancel the event," she said.
