Sun watch
TT, Siliguri, Dec.14: The North Bengal Science Centre at Matigara, on the outskirts of the town, will organise free observation of the sun for all its visitors during the Winter Solstice onDecember 21.
According to Biswajyoti Kundu, the education officer at the centre, a telescope will be fixed for the day on the campus through which visitors can view the position of the sun as the North Pole is tilted furthest from the sun.
"Winter Solstice is an annual phenomenon when during the course of revolution of the earth around the sun, the North Pole is tilted furthest from the sun. As the Northern Hemisphere receives less duration of sunlight during Winter solstice, it experiences the shortest day of the year. This is an interesting phenomenon. We have organised a series of fun events for visitors on this day," said Kundu.
On that day, the centre will organise activities like free observation of the sun, quizzes on Winter Solstice and will show the film Secrets of the Sun throughout the day.
"The event is open for all," said Kundu.
