Four held for tourist rape

TT, New Delhi, Dec. 26: Delhi police today arrested four men accused in the alleged gang rape of a US national at a five-star hotel in Connaught Place in April this year.
"Four men - including a tour guide, driver and conductor of a tourist bus and a hotel staffer - were arrested on the victim's complaint," a senior police official said, adding the names of the suspects could not be disclosed before a test-identification parade.
"The parade will be conducted soon where the victim will be present," the official said.
The victim came down from the US to Delhi early last week and recorded her statement before a magistrate. She underwent a medical examination on Friday before her statement was recorded.
The woman had accused a tour guide and his three accomplices of raping her during her stay in India. She alleged
that she was raped over two days and the accused had filmed the act and threatened to make it public if she complained to the police.
She also told the police the four men entered her hotel room on the pretext of discussing travel plans with her.
A hotel official said they were cooperating with the police.
"Police are investigating the case and we are providing all cooperation. At this stage we don't want to talk to the media," the official said.
Last month the victim had written to Delhi police commissioner Alok Verma that the four men raped her in April.
In her complaint she said the accused forced her to drink water spiked with sedatives and raped her after she lost consciousness.
