Two cyclonic systems forming over Bay of Bengal
TNN | Nov 1, 2016, KOLKATA: Close on the heels of cyclone Kyant which didn't eventually hit the land, two more systems are forming over the Bay of Bengal. While one of them is likely to fizzle out, the other one could develop into a deep depression over the next few days, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre. While light rain has been predicted along the Bengal coast, the possible impact of the deep depression is yet unclear.
"We have located two systems - one at the north Bay of Bengal and a second one at the South Andaman sea. It is the latter which looks more threatening and is set to develop into a deep depression. It is too early to predict if it will grow further into a cyclone. But the systems are still a great distance away from the coast and could move in any direction. So, it will be premature to try and assess the likely impact. We are closely monitoring the systems," said G K Das, director, Regional Meteorological Centre.
He added that a clearer picture could emerge over the next 48 hours. Last week, cyclone Kyant had been approaching the Andhra coast but eventually dissipated without inflicting much damage. It got reduced to a depression and disappeared without hitting the coast. The new systems, however, were unlikely to have an immediate impact on the weather, said Das. "Other than scattered rain, we expect no major change in weather. Depending on the course and the size of the systems, the weather might change," said Das.
