TMC to hit streets today; brace for traffic chaos in central Kolkata
TNN | Nov 23, 2016, Kolkata: Trinamool Congress is set to intensify its anti-demonetisation protests by hitting the streets from Wednesday.
The first rally will take place from College Square to Dorina Crossing at 1 pm via Nirmal Chandra Street-SN Banerjee Road-Esplanade route.
The rally is likely to throw traffic in central Kolkata out of gear on a weekday afternoon. This rally will be followed by one on Thursday, which is expected to take the Golpark-Hazra route via a bustling Gariahat. Schools which get over around the same time are likely to be affected.
Calcutta Girls' School, Calcutta Boys' School and Loretto would to face the brunt of the impact. The cops will try to do a speedy dispersal of school-goers but they apprehend major disruptions.
Sources said the party may organize a meeting at Dorrina Crossing disrupting traffic along JL Nehru Road, Central Avenue, Esplanade East and Bentick Street.
The impact could be severe on Sealdah-bound vehicles and those headed to Esplanade from Moulali.
