Sonagachi murder: Police zero in on North Bengal location

HT, 4 Nov 2016, Kolkata: A team of officers of Burtolla police station and members of the homicide section of the detective department of Kolkata Police have set out for North Bengal on Thursday evening to trace the two rescued girls who went missing from the office of an NGO and track the killer who murdered the NGO’s caretaker.
Police suspect that two girls, who were rescued by the NGO, are also involved in the murder.
On Wednesday morning, police recovered the body of 60-year old Kabita Roy, who was the caretaker of NGO Durbar that rescues minors from brothels – from the third floor room of the NGO’s office on Nilmoni Mitra Street. Two minor girls from Bongaon, who had been rescued on Monday and were staying at the office of the NGO, went missing.
“Roy’s cell phone was switched off and later it was switched on again. We found that one of the two rescued girls is using it. We have managed to trace the location in North Bengal. A team has reached there to trace the girls and we are sure they can take us to the killers,” said a senior officer of Kolkata Police.
Police presumed that the girls did not commit the crime, although they were indirectly involved in the murder. “After we managed to trace the location of the victim’s stolen cell phone and found that the girls are using it, we became sure about it. Everything will get cleared once we trace them,” said an investigating officer.
After committing the murder, miscreants have opened at least four locks and stolen valuables and cash from the NGO office. Investigating officers claimed it is not possible to do that until and unless miscreants freuqent the office before.
“Miscreants have taken keys from the drawer of the reception and opened at least four locks to take away the cash and valuables. Generally, we have seen that miscreants break locks. Such a modus operandi is possible only if miscreants knew the office very well,” the officer added.
